Huriana Kereru

Rongomaiwahine, Ngati Kahungunu

Huriana lives in Gisborne where she creates in clay and acrylic on canvas. She has recently opened a therapeutic massage clinic adjacent to her art studio. She received training in ceramics from Baye Riddell and Peggy Erikson.

Through her art Huriana is exploring her own inner awareness to find peace and balance between her responsibilities as a mother and her desire to be a prolific creative being. She finds that her art is an unfolding journey and the completed art piece is the final expression of an issue, thought or feeling that has evolved throughout the creative process.

A recent series of landscapes were influenced by other indigenous people's stories of their spiritual connections with, and struggles to live on their own land in Australia and South Africa.
